It does one’s heart good when a store stands behind the products it sells. Such was the case with a desk lamp I had purchased at a spanking new Home Depot just two blocks from my home. What a wonderful convenience. Name it, they have it. Well, the lamp worked perfectly for about two months and then, suddenly, the halogen bulb died. Naturally, I popped over to the store and bought a new bulb. I am not a helpless female so I easily removed the dead bulb but for the life of me I couldn’t install the new one.
Now this isn’t what I would call high tech but those two tiny prongs would not go into those two tiny holes. Happily, there is a wonderful handyman in my building who came to my apartment and in a flash, stuck the bulb in. I felt like an idiot. However, it did not work so perhaps I wasn’t such an idiot. He thought the socket or something in the lamp (am I a technician?) was defective.
Off I went back to the store with the non-working lamp and new bulb. I had a receipt for the bulb but I had discarded the receipt for the lamp. No problem. I went to the return desk, a lovely young lady checked the UPC code on the lamp, I assured her that I had bought it there and within five minutes, I had a credit for the lamp and bulb. After a profuse thank you, I trotted over to the lamp department and bought a new lamp – bulb included. It works as it should – perfectly.
Bravo to Home Depot – newly installed in my Good Guys Hall of Fame. They know how to take care of their customers. Will I continue shopping there? You bet.
